Hope everyone had a merry christmas. We sure did. It was 79 here in Tucson; sunny and peaceful...
Yahoo! has a few new services that are worth checking out. They used to be a clunky portal, but in a competition with Google, are taking web applications to the next level. I've already mentioned how the "my yahoo!" page makes for a good RSS feed aggregator; here are a few other useful things.
- photos.yahoo.com

Free, unlimited photo galleries. The cool part is a Firefox extension for batch uploading. Galleries can be public, private, or invitation-only. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to tag or annotate photos, or any of the cool stuff sites like Flickr have. Still, for family and friends, this has got to be the simplest way yet to share photos. From certain cell services, you can email in snapshots.

Again, for ease-of-use, this shared calendar service stands out. There are some Palm-sync options which I haven't yet tried. Even Apple's iSync won't sync addresses or appointments with the Palm, making iCal pretty much useless for me.
- Widgets
- Formerly Konfabulator, now Yahoo! Widgets, this was the original HTML/Javascript desktop widget technology. Just like Dashboard, but they can sit on your desktop instead of being an overlay. Most are cross platform as well.
