I found this article by comedian Steve Martin to be unusually insightful, explaining his attempts to invent a new style of comedy in the early and mid-1970's. I remember when he was a superstar, selling out football stadiums around the country. Some of his best work is simultaneously high-brow and low-brow. I love L.A. Story and Bowfinger.
